A little time with Scripture.

FAITH IN EVERYDAY LIFE

You want your contribution recognized

THE SITUATION

You worked hard on a successful project, but your manager praises someone else. You want to explain your contribution and also notice resentment when others receive attention.

DIRECT BIBLICAL TEACHING

What Scripture clearly teaches

Jesus warns against performing religious acts in order to secure human admiration.

Paul urges humility, concern for others, and sober judgment about oneself.

What Scripture does not directly address

The Bible does not prohibit accurate resumes, performance reviews, awards, or requests for fair credit. Matthew 6 addresses the motive of visible righteousness, not every workplace conversation about achievement.

Distinctions that matter

Accurate self-description can coexist with humility.

Pleasure in encouragement differs from making admiration the condition of your worth.

Silence about exploitation is not a necessary proof of humility.

Questions of the heart

  1. Am I asking for fair treatment or demanding that everyone see me as superior?
  2. Can I acknowledge another person's contribution while naming my own?
POSSIBLE CHRISTIAN APPLICATIONS

Possible faithful responses

  • Explain your contribution factually and privately when appropriate.
  • Give specific credit to collaborators and receive praise without false denial.
  • Practice an act of service that you do not publicize, as a way to examine your motives.

Reflect

  1. What would fairness look like even if I remained less visible?
  2. Whose approval is carrying more weight than it should?
A PROMPT FOR PRAYER

Ask for freedom to work faithfully, receive encouragement gratefully, and seek fair treatment without contempt.

About this explanation & its biblical basis

Scripture references lead to the biblical text. Explanations are editorial interpretations; practical suggestions are applications. This initial content awaits independent human theological review.

Applying teaching on public righteousness to workplace recognition requires an analogy of motive, not a claim that the settings are identical.
